About Edgewater
Edgewater runs along the Indian River North next to Mosquito Lagoon, immediately south of New Smyrna Beach. The 2020 census counted 23,097 residents, up from 15,337 in 1990, so this is a town that roughly doubled inside a generation.
It was founded by the same John Milton Hawks who settled Port Orange, and it carried his name for its first decade. It was incorporated in 1915 as the Town of Hawks Park and renamed the City of Edgewater by the Florida Legislature in 1924.
The water sets the economy and the search. The city runs parallel to the Indian River and tourism tied to that water is its main economic contributor, which is also why lot position relative to the river matters more here than the subdivision name does.
