50.91% of South Daytona listings are asking less than they did on day one, and 52.73% have been on the market 60 days or longer. Those two figures are the practical case for making an offer here. About South Daytona
South Daytona sits on the Halifax River immediately south of Daytona Beach, with 12,865 residents at the 2020 census.
It exists because its residents fought to leave a bigger city. The place was originally the town of Blake, named for the Boston businessman Alpheus P. Blake, and its first post office opened on August 19, 1878. Early settlers made their money in orange groves and vegetable farming. When Daytona, Daytona Beach and Seabreeze consolidated in 1926, the new city annexed the surrounding territory including Blake, and the resulting taxes and appraisals pushed Blake residents to hire an attorney and break away. They succeeded around 1938, becoming the town of South Daytona, and it was incorporated as a city in 1951.
Growth came after World War II, when the town created a building department and a planning and zoning board and developers followed. It was the second town in the Halifax area, after Daytona Beach, to install a sanitary sewer system.
