Construction Process Overview
Land Preparation and Form Setting
The construction process commences with land clearing and elevation. The aim is to set the ground up to the necessary height, following which the forms are placed. These forms define the layout of the foundation and serve as a mold for the poured concrete.
Pipeline Installation
Upon form setting, plumbing activities commence. The plumbing team installs the necessary pipes underground. To ensure quality, third-party inspections are employed. While the local jurisdiction doesn't oversee the physical process, they do manage the paperwork, ensuring all protocols are adhered to.
Termite Treatment
Before the slab is laid, a crucial step is to spray a termite barrier or soil poisoning. This mandatory treatment is a requisite by the state and ensures the soil is treated with a specific chemical mix. It acts as a defensive measure against termites, reducing future infestations and potential structural damages.
Slab Pouring and Concrete Preparation
With termite treatment complete, visqueen (a type of plastic sheeting) is laid down, followed by reinforcing materials. The visqueen acts as a barrier, preventing moisture from the concrete from seeping into the soil. This is vital for the concrete's curing process, ensuring it dries at the right pace and achieves the desired strength. The concrete is then poured to a specific pounds per square inch (PSI) strength.
Footer Creation
A section of the foundation is dug out to form what is termed the 'footer'. This footer is meticulously designed based on engineered drawings. The construction goes beyond minimal standards, ensuring a robust and durable foundation for the structure above.
